My Dearest Autumn,
I understand my sombre friend that you seem to be here so fleetingly. The last drops of summer sun appear to fade towards the end of September and you grace us with your presence for about a month before the first fledgling frosts and damp dark winter creeps in. As your crisp coloured leaves fall to the floor and carpet the roads in oranges, reds and yellows, all too soon the cold drizzle sets in and turns your carefully constructed carpet into brown mush. Autumn, you signify the loss of summer and the anticipated plunge into deep winter.
Around Town Flats
For those of you that are already feeling the loss of the warm weather, and feeling a little dejected about the forthcoming cold like we are, then here’s our list of winter events in Manchester to tickle your fancy and keep the winter blues at bay a little longer:
1. Manchester Christmas Markets, Manchester City Centre
4th November 2016 – Christmas Light Switch-on at Albert Square
10th November 2016 – 20th December 2016
A staple of the Manchester Christmas Scene. See our blog post here about the event and check out the event page here.
2. Ice Skating, London Road Fire Station
12th November 2016 – 8th January 2017 (excluding Christmas Eve and Christmas Day)
Traditionally Spinningfields has had a winter ice rink set up just for the Winter Season. Following the change of venue for the ice skating, for the first time in recent memory the doors will be open to the London Road Fire Station. The venue is playing host to a new winter popup event. The Winter Gathering will have an ice rink (replacing the rink in Spinningfields). The event will have some of the UK's best food vendors plus, drinks from local craft beers to expertly prepared cocktails. Plus in the evenings there will be live music and lively night life. A must do for a bit of festive cheer. Click here for more details.
